walking Florence by night

So…

Today started with my journey to Florence (read here), followed by an interesting dinner experience at Centopoveri (read here). To end the night, Professor Jodie led us on a short walking tour of Florence. It was lovely to see the city lit up at night, but unfortunately we were all so tired that I wasn’t really able to fully pay attention to what she was saying.

On the tour we passed by the river and walked to the Piazza della Signoria to pass by the Uffizi. We managed to get pretty close to the “fake” David statue (the real one is obviously in the Galleria dell’Academia). We also passed by the Duomo and the Baptistery, both so architecturally beautiful – though I’m not looking forward to the climb to the top of the dome!

The last and most exciting stop on our tour was Grom, a gelateria. I was so excited to try my first authentic Italian gelato that I had a difficult time choosing my two flavors. I decided to go for a cup because I didn’t want to deal with drippy gelato, and went with plain stracciatella (vanilla with chocolate bits) and cioccolata (dark chocolate). The hazelnut flavor that Savitri ordered was delicious as well!

Overall the night ended on a good note, and I can’t wait for my adventures in Italy to begin!
