Filipino Night with the Girls

So…

Today was fun, tiring but fun. We started off with a visit to Hampton Court Palace (read here), which was beautiful and interesting both from a historical and architectural perspective. I was pretty tired but the girls and I really wanted Filipino food, so I brought Cassia, Julia, Sarah, and Notsile to Lutong Pinoy, a restaurant I had tried the day before (read here).

The restaurant thankfully had all the ice cream flavors I wanted, so Julia and Cassia shared a turon (banana fritter) with ube (purple yam) ice cream. I got my favorite – mango ice cream!

We also ended up grocery shopping at Tindahang Pinoy. Julia and I decided to make some Sinigang soup with rice for dinner, so we bought a mix. Unfortunately we couldn’t find jasmine or basmati rice for cheap, so we went with long grain rice instead.

The recipe called for fish sauce, but since we didn’t have any we improvised with a bit more salt. Luckily the mix was sour enough that we didn’t need it! The sinigang was perfectly seasoned (though I like mine a bit more sour, it’s not right if I don’t make the ‘lemon face’!) and the rice was as moist as it could be.
