Chinese New Year 2014

Today I had planned on waking up early to go to Chinatown. I wanted to watch the Chinese New Year Parade (which starts at 10am), but I ended up waking at 11:30am. Luckily Jordan had arrived before the large crowds, so she was able to take really nice photos! Thus all photos in this post © Jordan Bashi 2014

One thing I found out from Jordan: even if you arrive half an hour early, people still arrive two minutes before the parade. The policemen force these people to step off the streets, so the people lined up right by the pavement (like Jordan) end up being pushed back. So tip for the day? be aggressive and keep your spot!

In the end, I heard from a lot of other ACM people that Chinatown was really crowded and officials were giving speeches left and right. So the parade (which was what I originally wanted to see) wasn’t that great after all, and hopefully I didn’t miss any other interesting activities after the parade!
